On my 2002 Trac, I am looking at my Ford wiring diagram supplemen and I see my Trac has only 3 oxygen sensors. ( I assume 2 upsteam 1 downstream)

Now on my schematics (page 23-6) sensor #1 & #2 are part number 9G444-BA Sensor #3 is part number 9F472 BA That BUT when I look up the part# 9G444 are listed as downsteam and 9F472 BA is listed as upstream

So, is this correct that my Trac has only 1 upstream an 2 downstream sensors????

If not can someone identify by number which is which?

I show on the diagram

B88 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)#12 (9F472) 151-5

B47 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)#21 (9G444) 151-5

B48 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)#21 (9G444) 151-4

You have one O2 sensor on each down pipe and one after the cat.

The 9G444's (DY-1081) are the rear sensor. The 9F472's (DY-847) are the front.

Hmmmmmm, I see the illustration you're looking at. I've caught an error in the manual once already. It about ran me crazy!:banghead::banghead:

I figured as much but why then on the wiring diagram page 23-6 does it show 2 9g444 and 1 9f472?

Also on the ECU

Page 150-12

pin35 is for 9F472

pin60 is for 9G444

pin87 is for 9G444?

Did Ford mess up?

Actually I am trying to trace the wires to the ECU

Assuming the box has the wrong part number

then:

pin 60 is for part number 9G444 GY/LB #11 DOWNSTREAM

pin 87 is for part number 9G444 RD/BK #21 UPSTREAM (the book is wrong, the part # S/B 9F472)

pin 35 is for part number 9F472 RD/LG #12 UPSTREAM

Too bad they don't say which is left and which is right upstream:angry:

Okay, 9F472 & 9G444 are Ford BASE numbers, meaning these numbers are for a given component. The prefix & suffix designates which application they fit. The only Ford Parts Catalog I have is on the 97 Ranger/Explorer/Windstar vehicles and the sensors are shown as 9F472's being front and 9G444's as being rears ..... in whatever application.

BTW, I'm accepting donations on a Sport Trac Parts Manual! The blasted thing is $50, cheap as I can find it!

So the Ford Wiring Diagram is FUBAR.

According to the book 2 are at location 151-5 (B88 & B47) and one is at 151-4 (B48)

So since on page 152-2

B88 says heated oxygen sensor #12 auto trans front

B47 says heated oxygen sensor #21 auto trans front

B48 says heated oxygen sensor #11 engine center rear

I would say then that

pin 60 is for part number 9G444 GY/LB #11 DOWNSTREAM B48

pin 87 is for part number 9G444 RD/BK #21 UPSTREAM (part # S/B 9F472) B47

pin 35 is for part number 9F472 RD/LG #12 UPSTREAM B88

LOGICAL??

Sounds good to me and as you say I see nowhere it specifies L or R side. I'm going blind looking at this........ I think you're on it.

As I said, these manuals will lead you way way astray. When working on the 4WD system on my F150 I found an error in that too. Guess nobody is perfect. Ford must be doing something right ! !

DY1081

Fit Note: REAR - HEATED - F5TF-9G444CA, F6TF-9G444CA, F7TF-9G444CA, F8TF-9G444CA - EXC POSTAL

DY847

Fit Note: FRONT - HEATED - XL3F-9F472BA - EXC POSTAL

And they are cheaper in Motorcraft at O'Reilly's or Rock Auto than at that link I posted! The DY numbers are Motorcraft.

Tell me about it. I am making corrections in the manual as I find issues.

Thanx for your help!
