The day I bought my new Vette in 2005 (it was a dealer car with 5K on the clock) I headed across rural Kansas south to Oklahoma. I'm familiar with the road and knew there was a 5 mile straight coming up.
I slowly eased those 400 horses higher and higher..past 100, 110, 120, 130. Running smooth on those Z rated run flats, so I inched it up to 140, 150.....
As soon as I hit 160mph, which was all I wanted to do, I just let it cruise for a couple of (quick) miles. I let off the gas and let things level out to 80 in a 65mph zone.
As soon as I got down to 80 and crested a small hill (not many in Southeast Kansas), I met a Kansas State Trooper coming toward me. He flashed his brights at me but didn't turn and chase me. Whew!
I thanked God that the Trooper didn't see me 3 minutes before!
Fastest I ever went on four wheels and haven't repeated it. I was just curious.
