Hey Guys, I haven't been too active on here in a while because I have been in engineering school and haven't really been doing anything but driving the ST. But anyway, I thought some of you guys might be interested in seeing my new ford project. Its not very far along so basically all your gonna see right now is the before pictures. I will try and update this as progress is made.

But here it is. It's a 1961 F100. Bought it for $900 and drove it on the trailer. Hauled it 4 hours home and tore it down completely. You will see what I mean by completely in a minute. When we got it, it had a 1978 302 under the hood. Which was cool cause it's a 302 but '78 was the lowest horse power 302 ever at only 150 hp. So we pulled that and got an '85 302 from my uncle, we tore it down and took the block to the machine shop.

For the motor, right now its a bare block but I got a fully balanced eagle 331 stroker rotating assembly, 650cfm edelbrock carb with endurashine. Edelbrock dual plane intake. Patriot performance heads. and a comp cams roller cam set up, I can't remember the cam specs right now. I am planning on building the short block the 2nd week of march.

As far as the truck goes, it is down to bare frame. I got the front suspension out of an 03 crown vic cop car along with its rear axle and some brake bits. So the truck will soon have an 8.8 3.73 lsd in the back with IFS up front and big disc brakes all the way around. Add the benefits of power rack and pinion steering to that and I think its gonna be a major upgrade for the truck.

Plans for the rest of the truck at the current time are to fix all the boo boos on the body and paint it the original color of Corinthian white with "peanut bridle" King ranch leather on the bench seat. Going to try and get some Brazilian hard wood for the wood bed kit and possibly use some of the same wood to build a gauge panel and maybe turn a shift knob for the T5 5spd.

That pretty much outlines the project so here are the pics of what we started with and where we have gotten so far. This is a project my stepfather and I are building together in our spare time. I am a full time student who lives 4 hours from home and he is a doctor who spends 90hrs a week at the hospital. So don't expect updates to come too rapidly.

Pulled the old 9inch out. Gonna use it in a pulling tractor we are building at school for the 1/4 scale national tractor competition.

And that brings us to where we sit today. Like I said, we tore the truck completely down.

We got the frame media blasted and primed by a local guy. Only charged $150. We will be taking the body parts to him after the motor and frame are done. I hope to get some updates ready by the 2nd or 3rd week of March when I am home for spring break.

Um, she put up with it for about 3 days. You should have heard her when the oil, coolant, and other fluids hit her garage floor. I though the project was over at that point. Luckily my stepfather is really into this.

We loaded all the parts up and moved em to my papaw's barn out in the country. Thats where we will work on the car for a while. At least until its gonna be keeping all it's fluids inside and can be rolled around out of the way.

Papaw is pretty excited about it too. He likes having us there to hang out with him. I wish I had a video of him picking up the frame with his front end loader and me hanging from it to keep it from flipping over. Was a bit of an adrenaline rush til he realized what was goin on and set me back down.

Very cool project. An antique pickup is on my short list of restorations. :supercool:

BTW, the pistol shooting picture: I thought "Why does he have a picture of Andy Dick shooting a pistol?"

Yeah, it's making me think I really do need a tonneau cover after all.

Great project...:supercool:

BTW, what kind of wheels are on the suburban. I like that 6 spoke design.

Eddie, the wheels on the suburban are OEM's from GM. All I can tell you is they are 20's. To me they looked to be designed similar to the old torque trusts only with six spokes.

Hugh, my bed cover is an aftermarket undercover. I love it. I can walking on it, haul stuff on it. Its strong and comes off in like 2 minutes.

Shooting prone like that on top of the truck was ok but it put my shoulder at a weird spot on the stock and I thought I might have broken my collar bone after the first shot.

This was a much better way to use the truck.

Should have it on it's wheels by tonight. Also should have the motor built by tuesday night. Will post pictures of both soon.

Looks gooooooooood!!! Now, a 4.6L DOHC Lincoln or Cobra motor would be an easy fit!:supercool: I know you said you had a 331 stroker. I just love those DOHC's though. Back in '71 one of your neighbors over on Stoney Point/Waco Rd had a Boss 429 Mustang (which Dad steered me away from quickly). Every time I see a 4.6L DOHC dropped into an early Mustang or pickup it brings back that memory. BTW, he has 2 or 3 black Cobra convertibles totals sitting in his yard over there right now.:grin::grin:

Nice progress,. Thanks for the pics.

I have built many a car in my life. Never down to the frame though. "71 cuda 440 6pak. no frame. but plenty of work to the uni-frame. Help a freind that did. Never helped him finish. He moved too far away. He was so meticulus. He would clean every nook and crany. With a tooth brush,,LOL. I heard he did the same to a '58 'vette. Gave it to his son for graduation. His son didnt want it...dummy.

Cause of my disability and Lack Of $$. I suppose I never will get to that '69 or '70 stang. My thoughts for power were exactly as Steve M. I was going to install a modern front suspension and set the rear up for better handling.

A lost dream.

Don't let hope die Eddie, we never know whats gonna happen one day to the next.

Steve, I live about 5 miles from Waco!

Wen't to the junk yard today for some more parts. Got a trans crossmember that I can modify that should save me a lot of time in fabrication. Found it on the ground along with the correct collapsable steering linking. Got those two items, plus the 4 huge bolts and nuts that hold the front subframe to the frame rails, all for $35.

My timing set for the motor didn't come in today but was promised to be here at 11 tomorrow so I am hoping to have the motor pretty much put together tomorrow night. Still don't have rockers, oil pump, water pump, or any accessories but I think I know what I am going to go with. Just gonna get most of the long block assembles tomorrow.

Yesterday I swapped the axle back down below the springs in the rear because I was afraid it was gonna hit the frame when the springs compressed. Also got the front end buttoned up. Put it on its wheels and rolled it outside. It's only tacked together for the moment but it's looking good. The frame has some crazy rake but that will change when we get the right size tires in the rear and some weight on the frame. Will have more pics tomorrow night

Well, we pretty much reached my goals for today. We got the frame rolling Sunday. It is only tacked and bolted in place. I will finish weld everything later on. Today we got the cam installed and degreed. We got all our clearances check and all but one of the pistons installed. One of the piston rings decided to pop out of the ring compressor and get bent so...gotta wait for a new set of rings to come in and more time to work on it. Got the head put the side that did get all its pistons. Gonna wait to put all the rockers on at once down the road.

Those names ring a bell steve but I can't say for sure that I know them.

As of today I am off break and back at school to try and finish up my engineering degree in May. I will get back to work on the truck with that happens assuming I don't get a job straight out of school.

The frame sits the same as the last update but the motor has been all buttoned up. Our valve covers were too short so it just has some stockers on it now.

These are the ones we will get. I am going to powder coat them blue but leave the fins polished to break up all the chrome and silver on top of the motor.

Next step is to find a T5 trans to bolt up to it then set the cab on the frame and get the drivetrain in there so I can make the motor and trans mounts.

A couple more of the motor with the valve covers painted. I think these look good enough to use for now. Can't wait to hear this puppy roar.
