So I found out I will be moving to the Southern Alabama area soon and would like to know if any members reside in that general area or vicinity. I would like to get in contact with someone who would not mind befriending a military family from Colorado and showing them that Alabama is not such a bad place. Thanks.

I used to visit LA(Lower Alabama) on a regular basis since my Brother was stationed at Rucker. I liked it ok, it wasn't any mojor problem, but it is like any military town, there is good and bad. But once you get away from Enterprise and visot troy or some of the other areas it is very nice and PCB(Panama City Beach) isn't far away. There are a lot of positives but keep in mind in the summer it will get HOT and muggy.

Have a good one

Carlos,

JeffC is in Auburn, he frequents the site here and there right as he is in College and works. Nice guy, if you two can hook up sometime say hello for me!

Coming from CO myself years ago... be prepared for all things to s l o w way down, it's slower there than in Colorado Springs! Folks down that way are not in a hurry but are very nice people, get to know the history of the state, it's not all pretty (history that is) but it will definately help you understand the people better!

Good luck on your move!

Thanks guys for your advice and help. My life has been fast paced for the past eight years and after three deployments I think my family is ready for a slow pace and some time off the depoyment cycle.:D

Congrats on the move, Carlos.

Sorry, but whenever anyone mentions Alabama and especially Auburn I think of this website (don't click if easily offended, and turn down the volume as NSFW):

LOL...I think there is a Bama version of that site as well. Also Florida, Ole Miss, etc.

The good thing about being in that part of AL, you are not far (90 mins) from the Gulf Coast. However, that can also be a curse during hurricane season. Heck, you will be within reasonable driving distance from Mobile, the casinos in Gulfport, New Orleans, and for a little longer drive, Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Birmingham.

Trot State, errr Troy University, is close, so you can see some good football without having to drive up to Auburn or down to FSU.

Overall, being in LA is no different from being in any other remote/country area of any state. You will have the slow life and the redneck factor. However, life is what you make of it.

Last, but not least, I have Jeff's back...WAR EAGLE!!! I have to protect my Auburn family.
