Rode with my buddy in a very abused manual Subaru Outback, and by God am I pining for a manual transmission car again.

With all the cheap cars for sale, I could get one to abuse and relearn the art of the 5-speed on. I'd even go for an escort wagon since it has decent versatility, decent mileage, handbrake turnage (so fun) and is a manual so looks don't matter much.

What are your suggestions? I don't wanna join the rice crews, they and I don't see eye to eye, but I'd rather drive a Suzuki Samurai on the most torturous road known to man than a Chevy, cause Chevy has failed me 100% IME.

While it's short-term cost inefficient, since I'm going to log a ton of distance miles, I'm starting to think of another ride to go with the ST as while the ST is the Gas Camel, it takes an eye from the face to fill the Dromedary's tank :(

Buy my Roush, not only do you get a real stiff brand new kevlar Clutch to muscle around.

You get (are you ready?) 6 FORWARD SPEEDS, plus R for race:banana:

Honestly, I'd look at 84-91 BMW's if I were you. They can be found dirt cheap. Parts for them are very cheap(contrary to popular belief), and they aren't called the ultimate driving machine for nothing. Just my 2 cents. Here is a forum site i lurk on sometimes devoted to the type of BMW i'm talking about

Didn't even think of BMW, never had any exp with them. The transporter wouldn't lie to me, even though he switched to Audi? Right? lol.

Thx for the link.

Same with miata, though I know a few guys who have nothing but problems with theirs, but that's not to paint em all with the same brush.

ROFL on the roush, I could drive the ST around the world for the price of that fine piece of American muscle. R for Race? Always told it was for Rebound lol.

Find a Focus or a Neon that hasn't been trashed by the "boy racers" and go have some fun. You might want to look into any rallies in your area, you know, time, speed and distance or some with a little off roading. It sucks because there are very few, small RWD cars out there. Thats where the real fun is!! BC :driving::bwahaha:

I really want a small RWD car. I see a few Fieros at one of my places of employment, and it has that cool 80s look to it, though I kinda like the "executive" look of the e30, but those guys are fairly pricey, but I hope that they'd be worth it, but I fail at manual right now, I'm ultra-rusty, haven't driven once since 2006 with an F150.

Be as shame to abuse a car with learning, especially since a tour of craigslist showed that anything affordable & driveable is being sold by e30 fanboys lol.

I seriously doubt there are any rallies in my area though, and I haven't really looked, cause the ST isn't a rally vehicle, but it is a "rally" awesome vehicle (haha)

The sad thing is that no matter what ride I buy, insurance will be more than the car itself. Sigh it's a racket. Another reason I could deal with a wagon :(

So, why is the Miata beating a dead horse?

look at the Mazda 3 HB, 2.3L FI, 5 sp mtx, FUN AS HELL to drive, even as a DD to work and home, zips in & out of traffic, good mpg (30+ easy) good power, FUN in the mountains, curves, etc. room to carry the groceries, dogs, 4 people, very comfy car even on long trips. Took mine to PA last year, 1800 miles in a week, ave 35 mpg, never got tired or felt beat up at the end of a day of touring around backroads or the interstate. I don't drive my ST much anymore as the 3 is so much fun, nor my HD as the 3 is almost as much fun, and the wife can punch my kidneys in the curves like she does on the HD.:supercool:

KL, I've been thinking the same thing lately..

My buddy just picked up a 2010 VW Golf TDI. It says on the Canadian website that you can get 1,195 km per tank of diesel.

That definitely got the gears turning in my head. I pay (approx.) $80 to fill up and that lasts a couple weeks if I'm lucky. I love my ST and by no means WANT to get rid of it...

...But its unrelenting thirst is just breaking my ball$

80 bucks?! For a second there I was in shock, till I remembered that you're in the great white north, where everything except gas seems to be cheaper.

But 80 bucks isn't much more than my 60, and 60 is murderous, but then again, I'm not exactly reaping it in hand over fist.

"You're breakin' my barrs, Hans Brix, you're breakin' my barrs"

And a Mazda 3 is kinda sorta almost a Ford...so many options to consider

Edit: Ford Focus SE wagon, according to the "statististicals" can get 435.6 miles to a tank highway :( That's not much less than my 480 of last Sunday night. The dromedary-ness of the ST is being challenged. Though said wagon is still 40 bux to fill, only saving 27.5. (Yeah, I rounded gas up to 3 bux a gallon, but gas is getting back up to that now)

How pricey is pricey? I find e30's on craigslist all the time for $1000. and you get can get whole running motors for those cars from $200 to $800. The perfect examples are hard to find and are pricey but the DD's can be found at pretty affordable prices IMO. Good luck with the search

these 2 manual trans vehicles can be had for the right price

Anything can be had for the right price, I Don't think the right price & my price are one and the same. ;grin: Wow the interior of that fiero looks weird. Guess its the same as I've always seen em, just the tan is making it look weird.

yea, the fiero interior is classic gm 80's (cheap?, maybe so..)

the beechwood leather in 88 is kinda' rare.

are you looking for a first manny vehicle?

97 Focus TJR??? :driving:

I like Ford, so Escort or Focus Wagon is good.

Other considerations are perhaps:

Saturn Wagon? (They get pretty good mileage)

Toyota Camry wagon.. (Pre accelerator issues...)
