Is this supposed to be un-capped?

I know I have a slight vacuum issue, as when I go up-hill under load my ventilation shifts modes to defrost, then back after I am on top of the hill. Looking onto the passenger side of my V8 engine compartment, I saw this (1 picture taken back for perspective, the other a close up) and wondered if the port on this is supposed to be un-capped.

Nope. It's the swing arm to cut of the coolant flow when set to MAX A/C or OFF. Vacuum is just applied to the one nipple where it already is attached in those two settings.

Maybe check the A/C check valve.

So to be clear, Markaprice73, the open nozzle should be capped off, correct? Can I just us a standard vacuum rubber cap?

It's not an open nozzle, just looks like a nipple-thingy, it's just a plastic post. It's not hollow.

I just double checked on my Father's 07 ST.

No problem. Additionally, just to put you at ease. It's the same(Motorcraft YG364) heater control valve on all Sport Trac's.
