To everyone in its' path. I'll keep you in my prayers. We just had it through here in S.Florida. It was pretty bad but nothing like you're gonna get. My advice is just get out of the way. A cat 5 hurricane is not something you can just "ride out".

For everyone's information...

The strongest hurricane ever to hit the US coastline was hurricane Camille, with winds of 190mph +. 254 people were killed. This storm is looking like it could make Camille look like a baby storm. If there's anyone down there who's planning a hurricane party, be sure you've got your last will and testament written up, cause you're gonna need it. This could be a natural disaster on a scale we've never seen here in the USA. Nothing in nearly EIGHTY years has been this strong.

Anyone who's weathering this one out is just DUMB. It's gonna take a lot more than prayers to save 'em (no offense STogiehog).

who are you to under estimate the power of prayer. prayer can bring many miracles that you are not aware of, or never will be. and God is not someone you should be putting down by saying he won't listen to "prayer"

Give it a rest, Daniel...he wasn't insulting your God. As for the hurricane, I have tons of family in New Orleans, and everyone except for one of my aunts is evacuating. I called her and talked for a bit, and she's set on staying, so I just wished her luck. No, I don't think it's the smartest thing, but it's not my life.

This one is going to be very bad! Get the heck out while there is still time! May God have mercy on those in the path of this storm.

Maybe God's way of protecting us, is giving us the common sense to get out of the way. If you want to sit in the path of a hurricane and pray for your safety - go ahead. As for me, I think I'd move to higher ground.

Camille was in 1969. According to my math, that was 36 years ago. Where did you get 80 years from? Was there something worse before Camille?

Here's a copy of a National Weather Service advisory. Looks really bad down there.

Why must this always happen. People are in the path of distruction, someone on here is wishing well, abnd it has to turn into a pissing contest. Get a life Daniel. And as for all in the way, good luck.

Ape Out.

i don't see how daniel was making this into a pissing contest, I think hes trying to say that you people need more faith in God. Who knows, God might hear the people out and save them, or destroy them. Maybe this is some sort of punishment for those in the path of the hurricane, no one will really know. or maybe the apacolypse is coming.

OK, just to change the tone here a little:

Up until last year, I lived in the Florida Panhandle. A friend of mine there gave me laugh when he said "You know you're f***ed when Jim Cantore (from the Weather Channel) is in your town."

You said it, brother!

Prayers are good, helping thyself is even better. Katrina's already killed 7 people down in south Florida, and it was only half the strength that it's going to be. Let's hope those in Katrina's path learned something from that.

Peace,

Dale

Katrina is a SERIOUS storm.

These are pictures from my town from last year. Hit with 2 storms. One was a Cat 3, the other a Cat 4....

Just an example of just a little of what a Cat 3 and 4 can do:

we got 130 gust here, about 90-100 sustained. It's no fun, but we got a tough house. SO we just rid it out... Good luck jneilwhite. Stay safe. Be careful.

My wife has some relation that used to own a condo in Perdido Key, Fla. Until Ivan trashed it. Also I heard on the radio that the people in New Orleans were given a time that they had to be out and when that time came and went everyone that was stuck in traffic was told by the National Guard to turn around and go home. I'd say they are screwed. Hope katrina loses some of its intensity fast.

I just read the latest from the local weather station. The roof of the Superdome is ripped in two places from the force of the storm. Also, the power is out and the backup generators cannot run the airconditioning. A lot of people took refuge in the Superdome.
