how you fig out overdrive 5th gear

Can anyone explane to me how this over drive 5th gear suppose to work? is it in overdrive when you first start the engine? and when it reads on the dash o/d off are you in or out of over drive ? am confuse

the light on the dash says "OD Off", meaning the OD is disabled when lit. It defaults to OD enable after startup. For the most part, leave the OD enabled for all driving, unless you're towing or are in hilly terrain.. Check your owner's manual for details..

that's just I didn't get a oweners manual when I bought it and they don't make 2004 manual anymore
