I'm thinking of putting the Herculiner (or equivalent) on my step bars since they are peeling/rusting and have a coupla questions....

1- Is Herculiner the only one consumers can purchase and apply themselves?

2- Where can it be purchased locally- which stores, etc./ best price? ?

3- Any tricks of the trade to applying it?

I've seen several brands at Wal-mart that you can do yourselves, they all go for $20-30 if I remember.

I used a gallon of Herculiner to line a 5x8 1.5 ton trailer. The kit was $100 with a $20 rebate.

Simply follow the directions on the kit and you'll be fine - clean the surface with acetone, scuff it the included pads, let dry, and then apply the Herc. Allow 24-48 hours to cure, and you're good to go.
