Just checked the paper today and PepBoys has Sylvania Silverstar Ultras (twinpack) on sale for $24.98 (limit 4, after rebate of course) ... I just replaced my headlights and foglights (9005's in the fog lights ... HUGE improvement) last week, and was noticable ....

Just FYI since the long nights of winter are around the corner  ...

I just noticed that in the ad this morning as well....Pep boys is the king of the mail in rebate :(

This week's ad was rather skimpy...it didn't even open up :(

I think I'll hit up the silverstars, at least for the fogs (I always run em), and some wiper blades, as my RainX blades which came on the trac when I got it (and are of the same line as stock) just smear and leave streakes...jiffy lube lied when they said the blades were alright...and that was the last time this sport trac owner went in for routine maintaenince. DIY all the way.

BTW, why does the Trac move the blades and THEN spray when you use the spray function? Seems to me you should spray then wipe, as the first wipe just smears the crap that always accumulates on my windshield...maybe I should get a bugflector.

The stock ar H3's, and the 9005 are the almost the same, but don't have the covering at the tip ... looks like they are a bit higher wattage as well (42 for the stock bulbs, 60 for the 9005's) .... I difference is very noticable !!

(see project attached)

H3 isn't even close to 9005. Perhaps you mean a 9145.

A 9005 bulb is a highbeam bulb and should not be used in a fog/driving light position. Save the eyes of your fellow motorists and stick to manufacturer recommendations for bulbs, they spend a lot of money in R&D and know what works. That's not to say that stock bulbs are the greatest, they are built to a price point, but changing bulb types is never a good idea. Check local glare laws, I'd be surprised if 9005 bulbs meet the requirements against glare in the fog/driving light position.

The fog bulbs are supposed to be 9145's but I too went with the 9005 Silverstars and did the mod to be able to run the fogs and highbeams at the same time. I do a lot of driving at night on rural roads. One particular highway I drive fairly often is an hour and a half through nothing but woodlands and is known for car and moose collisions. I wanted the maximum amount of light possible to see farther and wider. I rarely have a reason to use foglights as they were designed so I opted with the 9005's. I turn them off when meeting oncoming traffic, this is a bit of a pain early in the evening but later there often is not much traffic at all. I am hoping to find out how to mod it so that the fogs will come on with the highbeams and go off with the lowbeams but I haven't figured it out yet. With the highbeams and the fogs (both Silverstars) on the lighting is amazing. I feel much safer and much more likely to spot animals or other hazards up ahead and off to the sides.

The 9005 bulbs fixed the lack of visibility problems that i had been having during nocturnal driving. I could have put silverstars in the headlights, but I didn'tn want to take the grille guard off after I had just put it on, and my fog lights were rather wussy.

These things are so great that I could drive with just fogs and running lights, if I desired. Vast improvement, though getting them in was annoying.
