New Harley dealer in Beijing.

OK so the import duty is 90% and a new Fatboy starts at $50K US, still, they have snuck in a presence there.

Most Chinese citizens can't afford $60 US for a bicycle, let alone a Fat Boy. It will be the realm of politicians and those very few that have the money.

I spent 6 months travelling in Asia recently and all I can say is that there are going to be some hellish pictures from the accidents they are going to have. Sort of like when old New York City folks move to Florida and get behind the wheel of a 5000lb Cadillac and lose control wiping out a park bench with 7 young mothers and children before crashing into a canal.

Just a bad idea.

Viva Capitalism!

In order to ride a bike of that size you have to be escorted by the local police and you have to apply for a permit to do it. Harley sold 13 bikes in all of china last year 2005. They have big restrictions for displacement :( After you apply for your escorted ride permit, usally takes about 30 days, you are told when your escort will take you for a 2 to 4 hour ride. AAAAAAlot to go through for a ride.If you ride without the escort their are Very stiff penalties.Funny thing is, they had a fatboy on display on a ped. at the hotel lounge. Very tough over there. Oh and by the way.......staying at a 5 star grand marriott ....I was told NOT to drink any of the water....anywhere....the room was beautiful and stocked to the hilt with botteled drinking water and instructions about how to shower......DO not get the bathing water in your eyes or ears....little green goggles were provided as well as ear stoppers. Very tough over their. I was amazed at how such a really modernized city could not have clean water. I was told by our valet that the water issue has been going on for about 20 years but has just recently (past 7 years) gotten much worse. They have no EPA to answer to...... other than that great trip all in all.....we are SSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo lucky to live here. you have to see it to believe it;).... now go outside and worship your trac:p

Like the others that have been to China, returning to the U.S.A. is a reason to kiss the ground!!! :)

We have it quite well here.
