I have $50 deductable on my comprehensive coverage. It only cost me $12 a year more than $250 deductable, which is cheaper than buying a padded cover that I may not be able to get on the vehicle before the storm hits, especially if I'm driving... You can get hurt doing that.
My 1997 Grand Prix got hit by hail when it was only about 6 months old. My insurance paid me over $650 for the damage and I got it fixed at a paintless dent removal service who only charged me about $400 and even took out little ripples and imperfections in the body work that were made at the factory when the vehicle was built! That car was absolutely flawless when I traded it in on my 2001 Sport Trac.
