Hello all,

Going up a mountain today and the truck was not shifting into a lower gear. At times a whole high pitch whine. Suddenly a big jolt. Was this transmission slip? I've never experienced this before. Although, I have noticed the high pitch whine before when going up the mountain. Once on flat road, o issues.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Sometimes, the high pitch whine can be the rear. Like maybe the pinion bearing. Just a thought.

Hello and and thanks for the replies.

To be clear, the whine is really more of a screech. I am familiar with the whine these trucks make whilst in lower gears. Sorry for the misinformation.

Fluid level is OK.

Shifter seems to feel normal.

As mentioned, flat road, no issues.

Was this in 4wd, offroad, what speed? The screech and jolt has me stumped without more details I am going to say keep it on the flat roads.

Not 4wd. Not off-road. Would not go over 60mph with pedal to floor

How many miles on your 2003? It could be that your 5R55 is nearing end of life. Search internet and YouTube for typical problems and you'll find a bunch.
