make sure you mark where the needles were before you remove them. Start your trac, let it warm up and somehow mark off and remember where they are sitting at idle. Once the needles are reinstalled either go to a shop and make sure your speedo is correct or you can do it the cheap and not as accurate way and drive down a long strip of road with someone beside you that can tell you how fast your speedo should be reading.
When I installed the guages on my Escort GT, I started the engine and let it warm up to operating telperature. I then removed the guages and installed the faces. I put the needles for the gas and telp guages using my memory. For the tach and speedometer, I used my ScanGuage. It tells you the speed and RPM's via the computer system. Then I checked the speedo with my GPS to confirm the calibration. It was pretty darn accurate.
When I installed mine, I didn't remove the needles. I slid the overlays on over them. Also, a good spot for the mic is in the drivers side air vent, and there's a "cubby" on the right side of the steering column under the instrument cluster (behind the dash panel) that's perfect size for the controller box.
Thanx again guys....I'm going to go for it tomorrow after work if there's enough daylight left. Any suggestions on wiring? I would like for them to work the same as the stock dash lights do but, and this is where my real weakness is, I don't have a clue where to tap in or how. I hate to sound quite so ignorant, but I could never get up the nerfe to do any wiring before so any help would be greatly appreciated there to (just be really specific... )
