This message is for mostly Rich,(since he lives in the Atlanta area) but I will take comments from others. I am looking at buying a Springfield XD 45 ACP. What I'm looking for is a good place to purchase it. Do you have any ideas?

I went to the Springfield website and the dealer locater was still under construction. I want to pay a fair price for it. Do you have any ideas? I would ask you on the G&B forum, but apparently it folded.

Have a good one

Bob

P.S. I am a longtime gun owner so firearm safety ain't an issue.(I have had people lecture me on firearms when I have owned a gun since 1981)

Sorry I can't help with dealers. I've had a Glock 17 (9mm) for years, very happy with it, but haven't really kept up with the changes in handguns. What's the latest pros and cons of the various makes? Please try to not be parochial, just the facts of what today's top handguns are and why. Could be in market for a 45, or similar, caliber.

Hope this does not take you too far off subject...

If new, find a good reputable local shop. If you can handle used, you always try the local Pawn shops. Never had a problem with any firearm purchased from one. May not be the best dress girls at the prom, but damn for the price they put out!

PRM. I also have the Glock 17. It was the popular auto handgun when I bought it. (Before that it was the good old six shot 357, which I still own). After the 17 the Glock 23 (40mm) got popular. Seems the Glock 21 (45mm) is the popular choice now. The argument is always better stopping power although I have seen people shot by 9mm and 45's and were equally dead. I may be behind the times now but I'm happy with my Glock 17.

Robert, do you go to any of the local gun shows? That's the best place to find multiple dealers and compare prices, and avoid paying a transfer fee from buying out of state on an auction or online site.

Gonna be hard to find that particular gun used, since they are relatively new.

Show schedule linked below.

You'll love the XD... I've had mine for about a year, and don't get to use it as much as I would like... Also take a look at the springfield site, as they do custom work on them now. Adding night sites, match barrel, etc... It can get expensive, but they are all nice to have features.

TomT,

You have a 45mm handgun and a 40mm handgun? Isn't that somewhere between 1-1/2 and 1-3/4 INCHES? I think something like that would do a pretty good job on your average TANK, wouldn't it?

XD's are the new Glock. They are currently very popular selling handguns. If you don't mind purchasing online a lot of people are happy with this place.

LOL. I wish I had one. I meant cal. of course. :D

Have you check out auctions? I say this because the auction house that we have done business with just had a big auction of various firearms. There were over 200 in the collection. The company name is Sohn and Associates and they are a very reliable. They are in Evansville, In, but have auctions through out the country. They told they have someone at the auctions that can check your record and unless there is a problem, you can get the firearm that same day.

I don't live in ATL anymore, but I always dealt with Franklin's in Athens. Nice guys and nice prices. Not sure where you are, but there is a shop on the square in McDonough that use to be only a pawn shop but now has a full gun store adjacent to them. I've bought a few from them also at good prices.

You will like the XD by the way. I have two of them and am very satisfied with them.

Just bought this tonight for when I walk the dog... KelTec .380...
