I removed my EGR tube coming from the valve going to the exhaust. I cleaned it out the best i could. There is a restriction just below where the DPFE pipes connect, is this supposed to be there? I noticed a crimp in the same area, looks like a slight pinch. I fed a wire down the tube, and it stopped at the pinched area, it sounded metalic, so I didn't force it. Whats the best way to clean tube? Is there any way to clean EGR valve? Thanks for you help.

Take care,

It could also be the EGR valve itself, the DPFE sensor, or the EGR regulator acting up. It could even be a leak in the hoses to the DPFE or a pinhole in the tube. In the extreme, it could also be as bad as a processor taking a dump, but not likely.

Historically in the '01/'02's P0401 has been the DPFE sensor. Torrie has it for about 45 bucks on his site (see secont post on this thread). There was also a recall on this part way back when. Have you ever had it replaced? If not I would start there.

The restriction is supposed to be there. COme to think of it I don't think that I have ever seen a plugged tube. If there is a restriction I have always seen it on the intake side, never on the exhaust side. Like everyone else says more than likely a bad DPFE sensor. This can easily be diagnosed in about 10 seconds using a scanner.

I recently replaced the DPFE sensor. The CEL llight stayed off for about a month. Now its on again. I bought it at auto zone. Are they known to be faulty?I also replaced the hoses going out of DPFE into exhaust.

Didn't know AZ sold the DPFE, this used to be a dealer only part since there was a recall on it. I suggest trying to take it back to AZ and trying a new one.

There may be some addtional causes: Try some stuff <a href="http://www.mysporttrac.com/shared/msgboard9e.asp?MsgID=&SITENAME=mysporttrac&BOARDNAME=MSG&SEARCH=P0401&SEARCHCATEGORY=0&SEARCHTYPE=0&SEARCHTITLE=1&SEARCHMESSAGE=1&SEARCHWHEN=730&BUTTON=SEARCH&SEARCHDESC="target=top>listed here</a>.
