Connecting an IPOD to factory stereo

Does anyone know the best way to connect an ipod to the factory indash. I have a 2002 ST with a Pioneer single disc factory stereo. I wanted to hardwire an ipod to the stereo which would play directly to the stereo and recharge the ipod at the same time, however, it seems to be impossible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
