Check engine light

So my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan had a check engine light come...no noticeable performance issues. My friend put it on his scanner tool and it said there were no codes stored in the vans memory. He cleared it and it seemed fine. A week later it's back on. What would cause that? Does it need a trip to the dealer?

Depending on the scanner, it may not be able to read the stored codes. A mechanic with a proper scan tool should be able to read it but it looks like you may have to go see a dealer.

Go to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto parts and they'll be happy to read codes for free while your CEL is on.

Most likely his scan tool wont read, "OBD II CAN ".

Probably an older " OBD II " reader.

Or it is related to the ABS system.

There is a "key dance" procedure that will also give you the code...no reader required. You need to be on the Chrysler forum.
