Check engine Light Code PO401?

My "Check Engine" light just came on so I checked some former posts and got the Auto Zone lowdown. The code is PO401, which, according to their reference manual, has something to do with the EGR system. I popped the valve and other than some light carbon, nothing looked wrong. I went ahead and ordered a replacement sensor (only 32 bucks). Any other advice out there?????

I'll third it. You are headed in the correct direction. Pretty common failure on our Tracs...

Thanks everyone, One last question: Do I have to go back to Auto Zone to reset the warning light or does it go off automatically?

It will reset but only after several ignition cycles in most cases. That means, start up, run up to temp, shut off, sit long enough to go back to closed loop (cold engine). That counts as one cycle.



If it is a hard code and not a soft code it will reset once the item is fixed in most cases. I am sure that 401 is a soft code though...



Autozone will be the quicker way to go.
