The one in my 2001 came appart. The top of the unit broke loose from the hinge part. Replacement units, parts, hinges etc are available on e-bay, but I found that they invariable only solve part of the problem for a lot of $. I went to a junk yard and found the armrest out of a regular explorer which fits just fine - but is the wrong color - for $10. I gave the yard guys my # and told them to call me when a grey interior comes in.
Be very careful, ususally there is much more damage to more parts than you think, and these replacement parts are only 1/2 of what you need.
