Canoe on trac?

You can pick up a bed extender from Harbor Freight. However, the safety of carrying an boat that extends 10-12 feet beyond the bed of the Trac is pretty low.
 
I would modify/build something like the harbor freight extender to be tall enough to put the canoe on the roof and support the back part with the extender.

Take that Harbor Freight bed extender, and turn it around. Close or remove the tailgate, put the short part of the "L" shaped piece into your hitch, so it stands tall rather than extends out. Now insert the "T" shaped part, so the whole thing is as tall as the roof of your bed. Put a Yakima or Thule rack on top of the cab, put the canoe on the cab, ant just far back enough to secure to the hitch mounted carrier. Secure well, and drive to the lake/river.

this uses the above hitch extender, and a home made roof cross bar... I have better pics on my work PC...
