I finally had the time to share this.
I was going to clean my K&N, but I really liked the black (dirty) look of it. For whatever reason, I like the engine bay to be subdued--nothing sticks out, even if it is not stock.
From talking with Andy (Dingo), he told me that he had a blue one-off Green filter, and might be able to pull a black one-off. I thought about it for a while, and then gave him the go-ahead.
Andy asked if Green could make another one-off. They could. There are two differences between this and other oil-colored Greens. First, Green used black screen to wrap the white cotton filter. Green sent Andy the white/black filter. Andy thereafter dyed it black (three dips for jet black, and not a navy-looking color). He then polished out the stainless cap (which, unfortunately, is hidden in the bay--but it has a mirror finish). When complete, he oiled it with clear oil and sent it out. Second, now the filter is truly black and not color-dependent on the oil used.
I know--how will I know when to clean it? Cleaning it at 25,000 miles will work easily.
Again, thanks Andy for taking an idea and running with it.

The radiator hose is fine--that's just some brown dirt.
I was going to clean the engine, but I got lazy and didn't feel like covering all the electrical elements (it was 7, and the day had little light left). I did spend a half-hour cleaning out my bed and electrical taping the holes. If I have the time tomorrow, I'm going to pick up some rubber seal to run along the bed where it meets the gate. I'm getting tired of cleaning out the back.
