Has anyone tried using the type bed extender that fits onto the towing hitch receiver and extends past the tailgate to support any long flat items sticking out from the bed, such as lumber? Harbor Freight sells one for $20 plus shipping. Seems kind of a low price and wondering if such a extender would be too weak to support any meaningful load and not worth getting.

I have one that I bought at Harbor Freight for $22.95+ a couple of years ago. Works great. The one Canadian is refering to is different; it is a rack that fits into the receiver to carry extra items.

The harbor freight one has been posted on here a couple times atleast. As I recall the members who have it are happy with it. It is quite cheap and works both as an extender beyond the tailgate and as a ladder/canoe type rack if you also have racks on top of the cab. I've been meaning to get one and probably will soon.
