anyone know what this is?

Does anyone know what this would be? I keep getting Error Code P0442 and am wondering if this could be the cause. It looks old and tired. Put both pictures up to give you an idea of where it is. The "it" I am refering to is the rusty looking oblect in the center of the second pic. Looks to be some sort of solenoid to me.

it looks like the charcoal vacuum cannister for emissions, the rusty thing may be a sensor for the system... that's my edjumacated guess...:grin:

Check for loose or damaged hoses connected to the cannister.

Make sure your gas cap is sealed properly. (Rubber Gasket)

Evap canistor. As Steve said check the tightness of all hoses. The rusty thing with a wire. Is the purge solenoid. In plug it and check the contacts for corrion. You could also remove it and test it. Use some jumper wires from your battery. See if it triggers.
