Holy crap... I have never looked in Kalama's library:wub:

On another note, I agree with almost everything here. Be active, eat right... The only thing is... DO NOT DIET... no diet has EVER worked in the long term, you have to make a lifestyle change, don't just cut out the bad stuff for 6 months to loose weight... you cut it out for good (with maybe the odd cheat).

I did the atkins thing and I never had a single slice of bacon and rarely ate red meat. During the 7 months I was on the "diet" I lost 45 pounds and never ate more chicken, fish and salads in my life! It was great. Unfourtunately I broke my back and was laid up for 4 months and had to move back to the folks place to be taken care of and lets just say my mom doesnt exactly cook atkins friendly food. In 4 months I gained it all back.

I now choose to eat healthier (low fat/low carb) by just thinking about what I am eating before I eat it and whenever possible I cut out all pasta's, white breads and startches.

By doing this I have lost 30 lbs of fat in the last 4 months and with the help of protein (build muscle), glutamine(amino acid to reduce the amount of recovery time I need) and creatine (speed up recovery and put on lean muscle) I have gained over 20 lbs of lean muscle (over the past 6 months). I now work out 4-5 days a week (weights everyday, minimal cardio at the gym but I do a 15 km rollerblade as fast as I can about 5 days a week... weather permitting), still working on the rest of the fat (I get my body fat % measured regularily... helps when i have a friend thats a doctor). But Im doing it right this time, as a lifestyle... not a diet.

Ok. I have done the "Atkins Diet" and I do have to say it worked. It worked really well. I had to go off of it because my liver tests started comming back high. Had an Ultrasound and it showed I had a "fatty liver". I rarely drink, so that wasn't the problem. So with that diet, if you are doing it, you should have your hepatic panel checked regularly to make sure the liver isn't taking the brunt of the "no fat absorbtion". I've been off for a year now and my levels are normal now. (they went back to normal 3 months after by going on a "low fat" diet (wieght watchers)). Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as Big D. I fell down the steps the last day of deer season and broke my tailbone. Haven't been able to run on the treadmill since. Tried a few times and had to crawl to bed. Hopefully, I can get back to it soon. Whatever you try to do Aaron, good luck and stick with it.;)

I go 5 days a week roughly i find it best (for me) day 1 - Arms (bicept tricept), day 2 - Back, Day 3 - Chest, Day 4 Legs, Day 5 - Shoulders. Everyday i run about 2 miles as fast as i can and usually target one core muscle a day. Also Cut all the crap out of your diet you will see an awsome improvement and sleep at least 8 hrs a night that was pretty much the hardest part for me going to bed at 10 instead of 1. Heres an awsome website if you have no idea how to work out lots of differnt workouts and videos to show you exactly how to do them... Good luck'

THanks all for the advice. I'm not going to the gym. I told my girlfriend that I wasnt going to put out the money for it unless we were commited to it. So what does she do, decides to sign her friend up with us. So now they're going to be doing classes 3 nights a week. I'm not doing this by myself. So pissed.

I did atkins about 2 years ago. Well my own version. I lost 110lbs in 8 months. I walked twice a day about an hour each time, once in the morning, and once at night. I was also working a part time job then. Stuck to an induction style type of eating. I put on massive weight and started eating carbs after working a labor job, and I put on muscle, but continued to lose weight and pant sizes.

Atkins works really well for me, and I had tons more energy. I tried doing it again recently, and I lost 5 lbs in about 5 days, I think my body has never really fully left ketosis again, so I started losing weight right away.. I just cant stick to it anymore. It's not like I'm eating BAD. I dont drink soda, I dont do unhealthy snack foods. I just was eating too much and being inactive. I cant stick to atkins anymore, I cant go back to just eating such a slim selection of foods again. That or I just dont have the motivation, one of the two.

Anyways, thanks for the advice.

Sacrifice = the act of giving something up for something better; enrichment.

Aaron:

Are *you* worth the sacrifice?

Are *you* worth the $xx/month at the gym?

Only you've got the answers bro.

...she ... decides to sign her friend up with us. So now they're going to be doing classes 3 nights a week. I'm not doing this by myself.

When you wrote "with us", does that mean you are signed up, too? If you are, go to the gym when they go even if you don't want to do the classes.

I get too self concious going by myself, I tried before. I told her that, and I need someone there to keep me distracted, just being there is enough.

Going to get a refund from 24hr and just go to LA Fitness, I talked to my friend Sarah and I'm gonna just sign up there. That will help me, going with a hot ass inshape girl lol

This is a series of stories from iSatori, who sponsored a camp a bud and I went to couple weekends ago. Good stuff.

Aaron,

Never be self concious about going to the gym. I don't care how bad of shape someone is in, if they are in the gym, they are trying to better themselves and anyone else in that gym should recognize this and encourage that person. On the other hand, if there is a morbidly obese person at the counter of a McDonald's, maybe they should be the self concious one.

Good luck with the refund. I've seen news stories about those fitness places. They don't give refunds under any circumstances.

I can understand why Aaron is self concious about going to the gym. But there's a saying when you're at the gym: "There's always some one there that you want to look like and there's always someone their that wants to look like you." Hell, I've got a pretty good physique going and I still don't like to goto the gym because there are those people that ruin it.

My advice, go a few different times to see which times are more comfortable for you. It's best if you lift to go mid-day. that's when your muscles are most responsive. Any time is good for cardio except about 2 hours before you goto bed.

And speaking of bed someone said to get atleast 8 hours sleep. That is probably one of the best single pieces of advice. Your body can't do anything if it's constantly running.
