alternator re/re

I am getting a humming/buzzing sound coming from my alternator sounds like the bearing or a brush is about to give out.. I am looking for some info on how hard it is to change my self I will also do the belt at the same time... I am looking for a step by step project or some good gidance on how to do this my bigest concern is starting and not having the right tools or needing a specilty tool for retenching the belt.....

No real big deal if you have common hand tools.



1/2" breaker bar or rachet handle works fine for releasing the tensioner.

The tensoner will be the bitch. Changed my belt yesterday. Used a long handle 3/8 ratchet. A 3/8 breaker wont work. I tried. To much swing involved, couldnt get the right position. The altenator is as Gavin said, common tools, common sense.
