Last week I noticed that when I turned on my ac it was not cold and there was a scraping noise coming from under the hood. After looking under the hood I found that the ac clutch disk has come apart but is still spinning free, I have called the dealership and found out that the clutch disk can be replaced for around 800.00 but I can have the compressor and clutch replaced as one unit for 900.00. I thinking the smart idea is to replace the compressor as a full unit but what I was wondering is there a way to bypass the compressor by changing to a smaller belt. I don't really need the ac and the sport trac is a 2002 and not sure how much longer it will last. I asked the dealer but he was unsure if this was possible he said it may be something that I could do on my own he suggested looking on google.
Any ideas.
