8,800 pennies!!!!!!

A new law was recently passed making it illegal to melt pennies and nickels for their bullion value. IIRC, it's illegal for recycling and smelting places to accept them.



Also, unless you have the time to separate the pre-1982 pennies from the post-1982 pennies, no melter is going to take them. As stated, the post-1982 pennies are zinc, not copper.

You guys didn't see the sequel. The same kid parked illegally a week later, got towed to the same place, and the impound lot folks royally f'ed with his car!

If you want to check into it, courts have decided many moons ago, pennies are not considered "legal tender". They had to deal with people paying alimony and car payments etc with pennies.

Someone filed a suit and the result was pennies were declassified as tenderable monies.

Just sayin'.
