If Ford thinks they will sell enough GT500 Syper Snakes to pull their company out of the hole they have dug themselves into, they are in for a big surprise.

America does no need a 725HP Mustang! It took insurance companies to kill the muscle cars of the 1960's and early 1970's, but in the end it was the gas prices. That will kill the 725HP mustangs as well.

This was funny on the comments..

725HP, maybe, but it's still just another Mustang with a supercharger and badging. Doesn't excite me.

Oh wait, I didn't see that "Aluminum Shelby Map light accent." Now I'm interested.

If I had the money to spend, I would get one. That is simply awesome.

725 HP OMFG!!!

725 HP in anything is awesome. You guys can't be serious about not liking that.

Tom

Seventy-Two thousand dollars for a car worth fifteen thousand. Suckers are born everyday.

Horsepower is crap if you don't have the chassis to handle it. Look at nearly any Vauxhall VXR model for proof of concept.

With a 700-HP Corvette forthcoming, and a 600-HP Cadillac CTS-V, American cars are finally making respectable numbers for the massive engines stuffed in the front. Now if they could only figure out the bits to connect it all to the road...

The Mustang is worth only $15,000.

i guess my uncle was stupid by refusing already 6 people who offered over $75,000 for his 1969 Boss 429 with 15,000 original miles in perfectly mint factory condition.

I am sorry, that Mustang will be worth big bucks from the minute it is completed until the end of time.

Tom

Who said anything about a 1969 Boss 429?

This isn't about vintage cars, it's about a modern Mustang that only has a large output motor and a few suspension tweaks to an otherwise very basic vehicle with a poor chassis.

Horsepower doesn't a super car make. Or sports car for that matter.

Whats the difference between a base, 6-cylinder Mustang and that thing? Strip away the body and wheels, as those don't matter, and all you've got left is a motor with a lot of HP and some aftermarket suspension. Worth the $60,000 price increase? No, not really. Could take that money and make a car that very capable on your own. Oh, and don't forget the dealer mark-up and you're looking at probably six-figures for a NEW Mustang. Heck, you could almost get a Ferrari 360 for that kinda money.

Meh, I would take this Super Snake over that one any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

(Although, I'd settle for the pewter grey Performance package)

Unique Performance's GT-500E "Eleanor" Super Snake package.

In 20 years, this will be a vintage car too.

What is the difference between the 1969 Boss 429 and a 6 cylinder Mustang of the same year? Strip away the engine and suspension tweaks and you have the same thing...

So?

Not everyone wants a Ferrari. Some people, like myself, like Pony cars. That is what a Mustang is.

Tom

I'd take one of those $15,000 Mustangs there.

And Tiger, if I'm buying a Ferrari, it's certainly not going to be a 360. F430, minimum, preferably the Challenge Stradale.

Jeff, I'd take a 430 over a 360 as well, but if you want a 430 Challenge, you'll pay a lot more then 100 G's for it. That was the point, by the time you park that Mustang in your driveway, you could have bought a Ferrari 360. Or a new BMW M3 with add ons if you don't like used. Or a new Porsche. Heck, you'd only be 50 grand short of a Ford GT at sticker for that price.

I'm curious as to why they Shelby put such skinny tires in the back. A 275 tire with over 700HP? A Viper has less horsepower and more tire and still has traction problems.

My point is this, if I'm going to be spending that much money on a car, I'd rather it'd be a car built as a package from the beginning, not a car built-up from a car built to a price point. 'Cause if I want a car like that, I'll make it myself.

Saleen mustangs are prices around 60K. The 02 Saleen I bought was 61K and stickered at 71K. The super snake is for the collector. My brother owns several ferrari's and other rare model vettes, cobra's and a Lambo. Ford simply sells the mustang to, in this case, shelby. Shelby strips the car, and an tech/mechanic will install all the parts, suspenion, etc. Each car is hand built. So your paying 72K for the motor plus labor. If you buy a 360, look into the maintanence. The 15K mile service in a Ferrari 360 is around 15,000 dollars. Yes thats 15000. Everything is changed from belts, hoses, oils, pulleys, gear fluids, gaskets, etc. Thats why you see so many ferrari's with 7-16 thousend miles on the market. Morons buy the car and sell it cause they can't afford the major service.

At 72,000 I would say its a bargin for the package. but thats from a collectors point a view. My saleen has held its value. I was offered 66K for the car at a show. I declined cause the car is that much fun. Shelby's will always hold its value.

I'd rather have that Citation jet over any car.:D

If thats a Citation 50, a jet similar crashed into Lake Michigan killing everyone on board. Turns out to be a circuit board fails, causing the plane to loose its steering. They estimated that plane crashed into the water at 190+ miles and hour.

There will always be detractors no matter what car you name. The GT500 SS will be a collector car that, like anything with the Shelby name on it, will increase in value the second old Carrol passes on. Ford sold every Ford GT super car they made and most of those went for over $150K. The people who buy these things don't give a rat's butt about gas or insurance costs. Very few of these cars actually get driven much anyway. By the way, you will be able to buy the GT500 Super Snake with different power ratings. If you go with the "base" 600 hp version you will still have a warranty. The 725 hp version will not.
