Something funny happened this morning, and by funny I don't mean ha ha..... I backed up in my drive way and got kinda stuck (4x2 stuck). I press the 4x4 button and I hear a grinding and clunk when 4x4 engaged and I was not moving:angry:. I then try to pull ahead and it looks like it is in 4x4, but just as I start moving it seems to kick out of 4x4. I stop, try pulling ahead and it does the same thing (starts as if it is in 4x4, but kicks out just as I start moving). I then put it in reverse, move just a bit and when I pull ahead everything is AOK.

I know the 4x4 finally engaged and that electronic 4x4 is not the greatest of 4x4 system, but

1. I would like to know what would cause a grinding when no wheels are spinning? and

2. Is there something I should be worried about?

BTW it is a 2004 ST 4x4(obviously)

Thanks,

Denis

Go to Oreilleys or Advanced auto parts and get a new shift motor. Mine did the same thing when I was at Moab, Ut and I bought a lifetime motor for about 60 bucks.
