3000rpm Hesitation

When in park I rev the engine at 3000rpm it starts to stutter and bog down. Which common Sport Trac problem is causing this? There does not seem to be any issues while driving down the road.

It's supposed to do that.

There's a rev limiter when in park.

Ok thanks. I was thinking that may be the case. If I don't have a check engine light on is there any reason to plug in the OBD or whatever its called to see if there are any codes? If there is a code will the engine light always come on?

Not all codes will trigger the check engine light to illuminate
