Even on the salt flats it wouldn't top 252 mph...as that is what the speed limiter is set to. The Ultimate Aero SSC is faster, but not nearly as nice or impressive.

On Top Gear, they drove one with a camera inside.

Guy said that the tires would explode after 90 minutes at 256 mph, but not to worry, it uses an entire tank of gasoline in 14 minutes!

Amazing. I watched the other Veyron video on the site as well. Favorite quote from that one, "You could let a Maclaren F1 get up to 120MPH before starting out in (the Veyron), and you'd still beat it to 200MPH."

Pretty much can count on this car never being on the salt flats. They safety modifications you have to have are extreme for the interior. And, if your a rookie driver they don't let you exceed 150 MPH as a qualified run. You might run it and reach that but there will be no official timing records to prove it. I know this by first hand experience with a good friend that ran last year.
