I have tried to locate a Haynes or the like for the 2007 Trac, but I haven't found one.



I have done the front brakes. Straightforward, no questions about how to do those.



I am about to do the rear brakes and was wondering what I am getting into. What do I need to compress the caliper? Does it screw in like every other rear disc brake vehicle I have worked on, or does it simply compress? I can figure it out easily on my own, just seeing if I need to go get the tool to press the piston back in or I can use my front piston compressor on it.

Gosh- don't just press the piston back in! Make sure you open the bleeder first. You don't want all that gunk to back up into the expensive ABS mechanism.
 
I have an 07 as well, and did both front and rear brakes on it a few months ago. The rears were very similar to the fronts. I had no problem with taking them apart and putting back together. Only mistake I made was not making sure the brake line wasn't twisted when I put one of the calipers back on - just created a little extra work for me. Original rotors still in good shape, but went with Akebono pads and bought brake hardware kits from NAPA.
 
As previously stated, there should be not be any big difference between the front and rear disk brakes. The rear contains the emergency brake within the drum which is under the "top hat" section of the rear hub and you really don't have to mess with that unless you want to.



Pushing the pistons back to fit the new pads is the same as the front...just be sure to open the bleed screw as Gavin said. If you open the bleed screw first, it's fairly easy to push the pistons back with your fingers and if you hit any resistance, that could mean that you have pitting or corrosion in the calipers....Then it would be wise to just replace the calipers with rebuilt units.

Yeah, I knew about opening the bleed screw. Every other rear disc brake vehicle I have ever owned has needed a special tool that spins the piston in while pressing it into place, but now that I think of it, I don't think they had drum brakes for the parking break. Thanks for the heads up.



I am replacing the rear rotors on it as well. When I had tires put on it they told me that maybe I could get one turn out of them, but instead of taking them off, taking them somewhere, waiting for them to be done and then putting them back on, it costs a little more but I can get it all done at once.



The front brakes were done by me about 20k ago with some Raybestos rotors
