Where is the starter located on the 2001 ST?

Driver's side of engine block. Access from underneath car; don't forget to disconnect the negative battery cable first!

If you are trying to remove it, there probably is a video of one being removed from a Ford Explorer on you tube. Same 4.0 liter engine in Explorers. :haveabeer:

This is a somewhat tough remove/replace. One of the most difficult on cars I worked on (personal cars). Takes some wiggle and manuver to9 drop it out.
