For the technical group-

OK, I just got my 2001 early job2 late job1 sport trac back from the dealer after the 100k mile service.

The dealer changed the oil and used 5W20 instead of the 5W30 called out in the manual. Additionally, they replaced the green coolant with the gold coolant - any issues?

My truck has been running great.

Thanks

Rick

wow... i would take it back in my opinion... it says right on your oil cap 5w30... maybe your dealer is illiterate?.. hahaha

The whole industry seems to be moving to 5w20. It gets an extra .0001 MPG to meet the new standards. I know other engines swapped in their production cycle. Like 2001 was 5w30 and 2002 was 5w20. I haven't seen it on the 4.0's though.

Tell your dealer to read the whole recommendation, it says that the 4.0L is NOT one of the engines that should take the 5W20. Take it back and have them redo it. This was discussed quite a bit about 3 years ago. Someone even posted the TSB that recommended the 5w20, and at the bottom it said that it did NOT apply to the ST engine. Try searching the archives. Good luck.

Here is the TSB, from Walter Lundin near the bottom of the post. Print it off and take it to your dealer.

Heck I was watching the service guys scratch their head last time they changed my oil. They was wondering how many quarts to put in mine. They did use 5W30. I would request 5W30.
