Location
long island, NY
just got my tax bill for my house on long isle. $8,300 per year. not bad considering.

my florida house (larger) is $2,600 without homestead

what is yours?

Currently it is $530/half. This is a 1/4 acre property, 800 square feet, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, 1 car garage.

Shopping for new homes and these will be in the price range of $1,200/half. This will be a property on 1/2 to 3/4 acre, 2200 square feet, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage.

6,300 a year...... Not too bad, my brothers is almost 12K a year and i know there is higher around this dam place..LOL

OK, Waterfront(lagoon in backyard), 3 bedroom ranch, one bath and no garage. 1488 square feet of house on 1/8 of an acre. Corner lot, pie shaped....... $5770/ year :angry:

I have 2 houses. Total taxes = $5300.

My new house (1400 sq ft) I bought in 2010 and 10 months of taxes was $3400 without any exemptions. My old house (1900 sq ft) was $1900 in 2010 with all my exemptions (homestead, and VA Disability) My exemptions transfered over to my new house Jan 1, 2011 but I have not received my 2011 tax statement for either house yet. (mailed out in Oct)

I suspect that the taxes w/exemptions on my new house will only be slightly higher than they were on my old house. 2011 taxes on my old house without exemptions should be a little less than they were last year on my new house. So I suspect my total tax bill for both houses will be within $100 of last year's tax bill.

Texas does not have any State income taxes, but every year the politicians try to stir up interest in starting a Texas income tax :angry: Of course all politicians seem to have a lot of ideas on how to raise revenue, and few if any ideas on how to cut spending :fire::fire:

"no state income tax. Sales tax 6%"

redfish, thanks for rubbing it in :bwahaha:

TJR,

Did PA do away with their state income taxes???

I know when I was a road warrior (computer consultant) I had a client in Doylestown and the company I worked for deducted state taxes for PA. I never did get my money back because TurboTax did not seem to understand that I was not a resident of PA, I only worked there?

BTW, Texas has a sales tax, and as well as the counties and cities/town have various different sales tax rates. Where I live we have a total (State/County/City) sales tax rate of 8.25% on everything accept food. In August we have a Tax Free weekend where no sales tax is charged for school supplies and clothing (even adult clothing) Of course the stores are packed like it was Christmas Eve...

Les is correct.

In Texas they allow for a $15K deduction in the appraised value on your home as a Homestead exemption for the house you live in. This also protects you from creditors forcing you to sell your house to pay them. As long as your home's value is not over $200K (I think?) you can file bankruptcy and not loose your house, or be forced to sell it to pay creditors. Of course you can loose your house if you do not pay the mortgage, or taxes

Richard L,

Yes, PA still has a state income tax. It's 3.07%,

My wife worked two jobs, one in NY and one in CT, and was a full-time resident of NY. Her CT job took out CT state income tax. The way it worked was with Turbotax we had to file state taxes for all the states. I believe what happened was that the amount withheld for CT state income tax essentially acted as a credit on her NY state income taxes. I assume, behind the scenes NY and CT settled up in lump for all such returns and payers.

TJR,

When I tried to file PA's state tax via TurboTax, it always used my entire taxable income from my 1040 form...and then indicated that I owed PA more money???. What I thought was odd is that the PA State Tax forms never asked if you were a non-resident and just working there? It appeared to assume that if you worked there, you were a resident? Since Texas does not have an income tax and adjustment there was no adjustment to be made between PA and TX. This was back in 1998 for tax year 1997.

That year I also worked and paid taxes in AR, OK, NE, WA, and PA. All of the other states were short jobs were I only worked for about 2-3 weeks, but the job in PA was about 8 months long and represented the bulk of my income for that year. I did not file in the other states since the amount was too small to bother with the paperwork.

Mine was raised a SUBSTANTIAL amount...

But gee,, the price of my home was not.. Hmmm

I fought my county and won. The lowered the taxes to LESS than what I was paying three years ago...
