As an owner of 5 2001 st s and 2 sports all with 200k Fla no rust ...plus never seen a s/t go 300k.. without an upper half engine rebuild pulling the motor. Been go to junkyard once a month.. lots of rangers. /s /t there very very very rare 300k
your very lucky
There's a guy in Tampa Fla rebuilt only 4.0 ohc motors $1500. Guareeteens his work... you got to pull motor
He's doesn't pull motors anymore.
He's old 352 340 6208
He's rebuilt several for me
Still running
There are a few of manual transmissions in junkyards the rangers ones fit ..., I have 2/st manuals
One extra tranny ... keep a eye out for them..there 200 dollars at junkyard and they hardly ever go bad
There are a ton of sport tracks in the junkyards … with excellent steering wheels….for twenty bucks…..you need a wheel puller… cause they are really hard to get off…plus a t50 … nobody ever takes the steering wheels..might add plenty of used alternators in excellent shape and starters for about...
In the future.., buy the s/t with problems. Bad motor or tranny. From someone selling it cheap on line… if the body is 100 percent rust free.
Now you can drop 5 grand into truck….FOR THE LONG HAUL…10 years keeping it….if not… buying a semi new jeep….with payments. May be your best option…
As for milling the heads…my mechanic mills the heads…and sometime double head gaskets the heads…..got one with two head gaskets 40 k going strong … as crazy as it sounds..did the double head gasket. 4 years ago. $700 dollars… he assured me it was going to work…I was skeptical…and not crazy about...
The little thermostate hose under the thermostat housing blew on the interstate last week … and in thirty seconds the head gasket was blown..
Looking back. The hose was swelled up. And should have be replaced…
Just a warning
The 5 speeds s/t were made 2001/2003 that’s it …3 years they are extremely rare….one out of a 100.. but the trannys are not. Same manually tranny 2003 and up in the Ranger…
They’re indestructible if you don’t run them out of oil…if you’re loco…and young. You can put a manually in the s/t from...
