Has anyone put 6 1/2" door peakers in??....I know some modification will probably have to take place but I don't want to have to cut into the face of the door panel....I am looking at the Polk Audio Db6501 and Crutchfield tells me they will not fit but I think they could be squeezed in.....any help is always appreciated.....Thanks in advance

Why is a 6 1/2" and not the larger 6x8 speaker? Just wanting to know.

Not into audio like I used to be. Put some 6x8's in the wifes Explorer and they freaking pound compared to the 6 1/2's I put in the Escort.

Caymen.....It is hard to find a good speaker for a good price that is in a component set....I want the mids and the highs seperate....easier to control for the best sound so that is why I am wanting to go with a 6 1/2" and tweeters instead

It's going to require some door panel trimming, and possibly a riser panel.

You should be able to find some good compoents sets that are 5 1/4 which shouldn't require any permanent door mods but would still require an adapter plate or somethign similar to mount them up.

Caymen: from an audiophile standpoint round speakers are better (I can't tell the difference) but they say a circle produces the best sound reproduction... again I can't tell, but someone must be able too :)

I've got 6.5's in mine, I think they're even slightly oversized. I made some adapters out of 3/4" plywood (sandply) that I had leftover from a cabinet I made. Basically I just cut out the shape of the stock speaker then cut a hole to fit the new speaker in. The extra depth allowed it to fit without cutting the door. Use some foam rubber or dynamat between it and the door to help keep it from rattling.

I have 6 1/2" alpine components in mine. I bought this black plastic material from circiut city. It is what they use on customer cars to install speakers with. You draw a pattern of your factory speaker and the new speaker onto this plastic and cut it out. It works great.
