On this day, I was cruising, business as usual at 31,000 feet, then suddenly DEMANDED to descend immediately and land at Orlando International Airport. Upon advising ATC we were en route to Miami International, we at the same time received word that life had changed, from our dispatcher. We received a message saying land at nearest suitable. Quickly adding the equation up, my FO questioned ATC upon our destination again, and I just told him something has gone very wrong in the US, leave ATC alone we are landing. It has been talked to death, but ATC did an amazing job clearing the skies. That mass immediate coordination was unforgettable. Folks, we are forever changed, for better or for worst, we are changed. Thank a soldier, police officer, fire fighter. Maybe you don't believe in the War, or whether the officer gave you a ticket, or the fire fighter that had your car towed for blocking an access to a hydrant...They are doing their jobs.. Ultimately protecting us. I had a long break in Detroit airport today, they had a nice moment of silence at the time of first impact, it was very nice to see that the usual pains in the asses, screaming on their bluetooth nonsense, hung up and shut up. Good to see people still respected the tragedy..
