my second '01 sport track is nearing 130,000 and it seems like the trans is starting to clunk into gear especially in reverse..

fluid looks good and i think we changed it when i got the car three years ago with 77,000..now has 128,000..

could this be a u-joint going bad?

anyone else experience this type of thing?

any and all information and brainstorming appreciated..i dont think i can sink big transmission dollars into the trac and i was hoping to turn it over to my kids in two years..

thanks as always to the site and to all those that try and help!!

2wd or 4 ?

Could be cv joint, Rear wear, Time for fluid change, t case wear. or internal transmission.

Could also just need a band adjustment too.

The play would be universals or the rear diff itself......Or internal in the trans.

gary,

I would start by checking out the Universal joints.... an easy test is to drive down the road at about 45 mph and let off the gas, then step on the gas. If you hear the clunking sound, you probably have bad universal joints. If you don't get the clunking, it's probably in the rear diff.
