Last thursday I did a trans pan drop and filter. I purchased the Dorman 4x4 pan and ATP 4x4 filter. I had to use the oem pan magnet. Also installed a fresh external filter.

The Dorman pan came with a drain plug installed. Also it is thicker sheet metal than the oem 4x2 pan. I measured 3 1/2 qts drained. A 5qt jug of motorcraft toped it off.

If it wasnt for the price. I would have purchased the deeper alluminum pan. I dont know if the extra fluid will help, but it wont hurt. Despite my lead foot the oem pan was clean. It has been 15k miles since I changed pan fluid and the external filter. I need to cut it open for inspection. Last time at 5k miles it was catching fine particles, the internal filter bypassed. I will give an update once I cut it open.

Excellent write up on the Trans-pan change but then what would I expect from an old Instrumentation Tech.
