I was wondering how your Ranchero project is coming along.

Any progress lately?

Do you have any new pics?

:: Ears perk up ::

Ranchero project? As in Ford Ranchero? My dad is in the process of restoring his 1971 Ranchero GT.

Looks just like this one but light blue instead of orange and without the hood pins.

I loved the Rancheri, I drove it all through high school and my friends all called it the Blue Batmobile because of the sound of air rushing in through the shaker scoop. :)

Yeah, Tiger's got a 1966? Ranchero that he's restoring, shaving and customizing. I saw some early pictures, it's a pretty cool project. My friend's dad has a 1966 with the 289.

Wow, this is an unexpected question, lol. I thought no one remembered...and yes, Larry, it's a 1966.

It's coming along well. About a month ago or so I finally got a motor and tranny for it. I'm going with a 302 and an AOD. While it's not the C4 that I wanted, i got a great deal on the two...couldn't pass it up.

The motor will be getting bored 30/over, balanced rods, balanced pistons, timing gears (instead of a chain), a fairly large cam (over .5" lift and lots of duration), girdle plates, 4-barrel Holley, holman-moody aluminum intake, etc, etc. I've still got to buy a new oil pump and oil pan, the one that came with the motor isn't going to work.

The tranny was recently rebuilt (supposedly) but does have a new flexplate and torque converter...won't know until it's all installed I guess.

The interior has new floor boards, it's waiting carpet, gauges, headliner and door panels.

The body work is I'd say 85% done...I just got burned out on it. But the body will be fully shaved, no door handles, no emblems, no body seams, no wipers...only one mirror on the driver's side. Still a few tricks that I've got to do...

The engine bay will be smoothed out, the amooth firewall is made and needs some tweaking still to get it perfect.

The front suspension features coil-overs from a Jag...dunno how the ride height will be, may have to adjust them later. Also have a power-disc brake conversion....four wheel drums with lots of HP isn't fun.

The targeted completion date is September, hard to tell if it'll be done or not...driveable at least though.

Motor mocked in to check clearences and whatnot:

A quick shot of the mocked in suspension (ironically, that's the 16" spare off my ST as a stand in tire....)-

And, of course, box full of motor parts-

Enjoy that timing gear setup Trav (huh, what, I'm sorry I can't hear you let turn the engine off!) :D

Oh, and .500" lift is not "fairly large" you sissy!

lol....over stock it is, and for a 302 (308? what's a 302 30 over?) it is.

What's my next project? I've got a lost about 4-5 cars long...'56 Porsche 550A Spyder, '32 Ford Tudor Sedan, '65 Lincoln Conti Convert, bobber/chopper...I need a bigger garage. So hard to choose just one.

A .030 over 302 is a 306ci...

Just put a 347 kit in it like I did. Makes more torque than you'll ever need on the street, but hey then again I'm building a 427ci stroked Windsor for the Cobra replica! (I've got to learn that Tim Allen voice one of these days!)...

500+ hp in a 2K pound car? Boo-yah!

We've got two Cobras at work...one has a 351 Clevland, the other 351 Windsor. Both are for sale....lol. I rode in the 351W one today...no stock of course, damn, it was fast. Haven't rode in the 351C one, but it only has 300 miles on it in 10 years and we're trying to keep the miles off of it. Supposedly it has around 550HP.

Are you modifying the footbox at all? Or will you be using small pedals? The pedal spacing makes it difficult to operate with my size 12 boots...

I'm only a 9 1/2- shoe so I'm hoping the pedals are OK. Lots of guys bend the pedal arms or run small pedal covers. Stock footbox, which honestly is smaller than the Mk II (ours is a Mk III) they made it smaller to fit the 4.6 in the car...

Later Trav, good progress on the 'Chero BTW...

Mark
