OK, so, here we are, and We have found the problem! You may recall, I had a sudden loss of oil pressure, followed by upper valve train rattle for 30 seconds while I found a place to pull over and shut off the engine. Pulled the valve covers, and used a scope to check out the timing gears and guides. All was well, no broken bits and no sludge anywhere to be seen. Pulled the Intake Manifold and pulled the oil Drive gear, looks brand new it's that clean. Today, pulled the inspection plate on the bottom. Perfectly clean, no bits of timing guide plastic to be found. WTH could it be then? Back up to the top of the engine and finally pulled the Oil Pump Drive Shaft (using long needle nose pliers) and WALA!! The oil pump drive shaft is sheared off! Check out the pic. There is supposed to be a gear on EACH end of this shaft, not just the top side. So, it's obvious the oil pump drive shaft is snapped. Easy enough to replace, but, I have to get the remains of the old shaft out of the engine before I can put the new $25 part in. Without dropping the motor, how can I do that? Tomorrow I think we'll try to grab it with a magnet and pull up through the shaft housing. Anybody else run into this? How did you get it out? Help! Thanks! Doogie
