Consumed two full tanks using RichardL's "topping off" method.

(Gas pump measurement, not fuel guage or low fuel warning indicator)

Mixed city and highway average increased from 16.5 to 19.7 MPG. (40% City)

Same route, driving style, and fuel. Engine mods are a Zabteck Throttle Body,

K & N Drop In Filter, with the air silencer removed.

Muffler is a Dynomax Super Turbo bought from Amazon for $45 shipped. (#17733)

CarReview says the "best value in Motorsports and the most popular muffler

in motorsports history is a proven winner".

Anyone experienced similar gains by changing a muffler keeping the stock pipes?

Consensus says it requires "break in" and will improve over time. Huh?

Eddie '04 was right, the stock ST exhaust is a "cork". I'm pleasantly stunned.

I put a magnaflow system on mine and also gained MPG's....

Works well as long as you keep your foot out of it because you want to hear it.. LOL

KL- I left the resonator on, concerned with the dreaded 2-3K drone.

Can't imagine a better spent $45, should have been my very first mod.

The subtle sound level and tone are perfect for me. IOW, I likey.

Man oh man! Haven't seen you post lately and then you come in with mpg gains from a wooden muffler! how am I supposed to keep any money in my pocket with you doing this stuff!!:grin:

'Course it'll probably cost me mpg's since I do like to hear "wooden-wooden"!!:bwahaha:

Well shoot, if you've gotten that from a muffler with resonator, I might just have to find a place to put this Flowmaster I have kicking around on.

Been putting it off since most everyone here was reporting that they ripped out the resonator.

Who ever has done this, is the installation hard? Any tips or comments about the installation? I've never messed or installed anything related to exhaust, and I am thinking about buying the Dynomax. But i dont know how hard the installation is gonna be? Any instructions?\

Jeff,

Amazon for $45 shipped. (#17733)

Or are you looking for a different number?

George T- The HUGE stock muffler is welded on and needs to be cut off.

Had mine welded at a small independent muffler shop, less chance of leaking.

Super Turbo is 14 inches long with 2.50" in/out. (Shorter length and 1/4" larger in/out)

A short extension pipe is needed. If you DIY, install by using clamps and couplers.

So welding is not required, but it would be safer? Where do I get the extension and the adapters? Sorry, I am not sure about all of this.

Thanks for all your help,

George T.

George T- Any large AP chain store should have the exhaust parts.

Personally, I felt uncomfortable using a Sawzall under the vehicle.

Total job for me was $75 parts and labor. (No blood given) LOL

IMO, get some estimates and have it welded.

If you have similar results to mine, will pay for itself in no time. (Sounds cool too)

Worth every penny. Good Luck!

Steve,

Tha dyno-max super turbo is a good muffler. 3 tube design with internal flow turns with High temp glass. They flow very well. I have used them when I wanted a sleeper with some sound.

Has a mellow sound. I dont think you would get anoyed by drone if the muffler is at the axle. It is one of the queiter turbos on the market. Cheaper turbos have no sound assorbant. I would cut out the resonator.

Agreed KL. Why remove it if there is nothing to gain? (Except added noise)

Basically a small hollow muffler that reduces vibration. (Resonance)

Danny- Quickest I could post a video/sound clip would be Tuesday. (No camera)

Check the Dynomax URL sample below of their different mufflers.

Problem is they don't give details of the vehicle(s) used, resonator removed, etc.

My Super Turbo does sound considerably quieter than the sample clip.

Oops, doesn't work. Google "Sounds Of Dynomax".

Oops sometimes I need to read things a few times before I post:angry:

I had a Dynomax on my wifes' 99 Cougar and was very happy with every aspect of it.

I had that thing on there for probably 4-5 or more Cleveland winters and it lasted too.

How would the 2.5" muffler mate up to the 2.25" stock pipe?

I guess they make adapters, right?
