Religious babble?...

1. Its not a religion that I practice it is a relationship that I have w/the Lord Jesus Christ

2. I was pointing out that there are worse places to be...we are not under a repressive leader (dictator)

3. Never once was it stated that gas cost too much to do missionary work

4. It is amazing how defensive and offended people get when spiritual verbage is used, even to go as far as segregating this speech to and isolated thread, as if this were not worthy to be in everyday conversation

Some could argue differently.

Here is something to think about.

If someone wanted to talk about devil worship or homosexuality in everyday conversation, would you object or walk away and not be a part of it?

Tom

even though I do not agree or condone these things, there are things that have to be permitted if there is to be a free society...free doesn't mean just free to christianity. I this were to come up in a thread then I may or may not walk away...depending on the content...

By the way if someone would argue the dictator argument then it could be combatted w/the fact that we are still in a democratic republic and that person could always be voted out and even impeached in some instances...Just a Thought

Derek:wacko:

Derek, I try not to take it personal. The word basicly says to dust your feet. Doesnt mean to not be a freind or be combatant about Christ. They dont want to hear it. I have been on this board 4 yrs. I have seen some members that proffess or confess to be christians in some threads. Yet I have observed some of the same ones get combatant if Christ is mentioned. I find there is no honor in the battle.

If someone says there is no God, not my problem either. I just wish all our members a blessed day.

This does present a great challenge to many missionaries who are driving across the country raising their support. Please pray for these dear families as they follow God's will. We know that God will provide, but please pray that their faith will be increased during this test.

You typed it...

SOB.......now that's some real positive info on gas prices. Prob will have to forgo a steak BBQ dinner over the holiday.....may have to settle for pork and beans and tell my friends BYOB.

Yuck........I know ppl in Calif that live on road kill......another reason I got the hell out of that state :p

Nothing wrong there, Bill. I went back the next morning after a deer met the front of my Explorer 4-door to see if it was still there (dead/alive/etc.), I clearly could see where someone took it from the roadside. It was below freezing in the winter, so it was preserved. Later learned that one of my neighbors had it turned into steaks. I guess it beats dragging a muzzleloader through a foot of snow!

Congress is starting to act on the high energy prices. An amendment to the farm bill they just passed closed the so-called Enron loophole. Back in late 2000, congress passed a law eliminating regulation and oversight of the energy commodities markets at the urging of Sen. Phil Gramm and his wife Wendy. The legislation was heavily lobbied for by Enron, and shortly after Bush took office, Wendy Gramm was appointed to the board of directors of Enron.

Enron used the new legislation to play their games with the electricity supplies in California and make lots of money by artificially inflating the price of electricity. More recently, a hedge fund used the loophole to gain control of 40% of the natural gas contract.

A loophole still exists for energy exchanges that are based in a foreign country but operate in the US. Congress is apparently looking at ways to oversee those exchanges to reduce fraud.

The Senate has recently been looking into why oil companies are reporting record profits while Americans continue to pay through the nose at the pump. Of course, the obvious conclusion is that oil companies are reporting record profits because Americans are paying through the nose at the pump, but for some unknown reason the oil companies don't see a correlation.

So the Senate is investigating - and they're uncovering some very interesting information. For example, last week Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) asked executives from Exxon Mobil, Conoco, Shell Oil, and BP America, "Did your company or any representatives in your companies participate in Vice President Cheney's energy force in 2001?"

All the executives replied in the negative. Which is unfortunate, because that very same day a newly-released White House document revealed that oil company executives had indeed met with Dick Cheney in 2001.

Which companies did they represent? Yup - Exxon Mobil, Conoco, Shell Oil, and BP America. What a surprise!

We have a coupon for 70¢ off per gallon for one fill-up...waiting until the car is bone-dry to use it this week! It will be like going in a time capsule and going back to last summer.

I figured it up, and between my wife, my daughter, and I, we spent $677.00 on gasoline in the Month of May. That’s about 50% more than I paid for gas in May of 07. (BTW, in May of 07 I drove the ST to and from work, 66 miles R/T, but I did Carpool 1 week of that month, and my wife had a 2004 Freestar.) My wife now drives a Focus, and I drive an Escort to and from work so I can save Gas... But we still were 50% over last May. (Yes, I still have the ST, but it sits parked 5-6 days a week)

My wages certainly haven’t increased by 50%... Food is up, Clothes are up, and MGE gas just got approval for a rate increase, so the average homeowner will pay about $15.00 more per month here in Kansas City... KCP&L is asking for a rate increase on our Electric service... I Had to put 2 new tires on my daughters car today, and that cost has gone up too... Everything is up in price.

Derek, I believe in God, and I would offer you heartfelt congratulations on seeing the bright side of life, but in this case I don’t agree with you on there being a positive side to high gas prices. Sure I am glad I have a car, and I am glad I live in the USA, and I do thank God for what I have, but I don’t think God wanted this for us.

Just my .02 worth... Dave
