passenger air bag light

Upon start up, passenger air bag light always illuminates stating "Passenger Air bag Off" regardless of weight of passenger, adult or child. A few seconds and it turns off. Never does it say "On". This is disconcerting to me and of course my passenger. How does one confirm that the passenger air bag is on and activated? Thanks for your advice.

Take it to the dealer to find out for sure. That is what a warranty is for.

It comes on for a few seconds to prove it is working then goes off.

As long as the light is off the system is ok. With a small passenger seated

the light will light to alert that the system is deactivated.

My '07 does the same thing at start-up. The sensor under the passenger seat should detect if a small child is there and the "Passenger Air Bag Off" will be illuminated. When the light is off, the airbag is activated. Check your manual for more info on this feature.
