Well his plea bargain was more than just the killing of the dogs and running his ring of dog fighting. He would of done more time for the illegal gambling across state lines. So, the two years is slap on the wrist. And, since he is going to Federal Jail he will do the two years. Unlike State Prison a two year is really 6-12 months.

BTW it was Dogs, plural, not just one dog.

Caymen...you have to do better than that...mosquito analogy? That was so weak!:p

They dude dug his own grave. Sad part is this guy had 80 million dollars in endorsement deals. Sad sad.......... (shaking my head)

I cant believe that some of you are sitting here and trying to advicate that what micheal vick did was not wrong. You compare killing dogs to killing chickens or cows? When was the last time a chicken or a cow pulled a guy out of a firefight, when was the last time a chicken or a cow alerted on an IED and saved the lives of our brothers/sisters in arms downrange. Pitbulls are one of the most aggressive breeds out there. They forced two dogs to fight to the death. Most of the dogs fought out of fear! How is that not wrong? How is it not wrong to HANG a dog and when it didnt die Micheal Vick drowned the dogs. Some of you are some closed minded people and need to have a reality check. Just because you think of dogs as some housepet that merley poops on the carpet a few times a day. How about you take a moment and watch the movie "War Dogs" It is about Military Working Dogs in Vietnam that not only saved lives but pulled service members to safety. You cant train a damn chicken or cow to sniff out bombs, drugs, find a missing child or do simple tricks. All these dogs ask for in return is to be treated kindly and fairly and to be loved. I am uterly disqusted by the comments that were left on this topic and quite frankly offended. When i go back to iraq with the army my 4 year old bomb DOG will be saving my ass finding IED's, weapons caches, locating the enemy before they get a chance to blow my head off and my wife ends up with a life insurance check and a folded american flag!!!

alan beaulieu,

First of all, it sounds like you are Military Service, and for that I thank you!

Secondly, don't read wrong into what most of our members have meant by their

posts on this site. Most members here are good people, and like most people,

some times their comments or opinions can be taken out of context. But sometimes,

there are posts that you just have to take at face value.

I agree with the cow and chicken thing. There is nothing I enjoy more than sharing

a good meal with my family consisting of a big, juicy steak and the grilling of some

spicy chicken breasts! There is almost nothing more that I abhor than this,

when it comes to an animal:

Hope this clarifies...

Guys, everyone has their own opinions on this subject, which luckily in America everyone is entitled too. But the simple truth about Michael Vick is he does deserve jail time. He willingly chose to participate in an activitiy that he new was illegal. It doesn't matter how heinous we think the crime is or isn't. The fact that he is a celebriety sports figure shouldn't have any bearing.

Mike H

Not only did he WILLINGLY choose to do it. He hung the dogs that didnt "perform well" and when they didnt die he drowned them. He needs to rot in a jail cell

I agree with some of the other posters. If he were fighting earthworms, cockroaches, rats, or even cats, no one would care one bit. But since he was using "man's best friend", everyone now has their bowels in an uproar over it.

Don't get me wrong--the idiot deserves jail time for his own stupidity and arrogance.

I'm not a proponent of torturing or even killing animals--and I like a tasty steak or pork chop or chicken breast like anyone else. However, killing a dog is really no different than killing any other animal.

The real problem here is that a bunch of idiots were getting their rocks off because of the animals' suffering. That is part of the difference. But, like I said, if the animal they were using were not as cute and cuddly, we wouldn't really care all that much.

alan,

I agree he is a heartless S.O.B. They say that people that will hurt a helpless animal

are just as likely to committ crimes against people. Let it go, and get some sleep

tonight!. He's gonna get what he deserves, here, and in the hereafter! Hell, he's already

lost millions of dollars in endorsement deals. Not that that is what would be important to

you and I, but it's hurtin' him now, and there is much more hurt to follow for him!!!

What Comes Around, Goes Around!!!

(I.E., There's a Pit Bull waitin' in hell to greet his A$$!).:lol:

Tracnblack,

LOL, i totally agree. Wait till a pitbull gets him!!!

Gavin,

You cant compare earthworms to dogs. A dog is more than just "cute and cuddly" I can see what your basing your opinion on and to a point it would make sence. However, i would like people to understand what dogs are actually capable of doing. The good they can do. From being narcotic dector dogs, to explosive detector dogs, even the seeing dogs for the blind. The military used to just euthanize the military working dogs once they were retired from service but they have come to realize these dogs arent just any normal animal and deserve to have a good life just like everyone else after faithfull service to the military. Day in and day out CiCi goes out there with me and for hours on end will sniff for explosives at the gate, on base and with the local authorities and the only thing she works for is her Kong and love and affection from me. A dog is the most loyal thing a man can have.

However, killing a dog is really no different than killing any other animal.

I guess if you have never had a dog then I could see why you would say that. Take it from me. I've had every kind of pet there is and I can tell you there is no animal like a dog.

Alan, others,

I am glad I could stir up a bit of controversy, and I am glad there are a couple here who actually consider are more logical opinion as the the relative "sameness" when it comes to the killing of all animals (surprised it is Caymen, and Gavin, but hey...they are both good people).

Anyway, I have nothing but respect for dogs. I just can't see someone getting two years in jail for killing one (talking about the other story here for a minute, not the Michael Vick one), while we can and do kill all types of other animals without consequence.

It just seems illogical to me, and the laws very "arbitrary!"

HA! I HAVE a dog! I agree he is the most loyal thing--because I punish him for pee'ing on the furniture when he gets lonely, and he comes running to me even though I've just scolded him. I'll even admit he is a pretty smart critter at some things--cause he knows he isn't supposed to pee in the house, and he goes in his crate to "punish himself" right after he does it. However, he cannot think for himself either--he always has to hang around and see what it is we are doing before he decides what he wants to do too, and he is so dependant on attention from humans for his own happiness.

However, I really enjoy my three cats more--they think for themselves and decide for themselves what they want to do. They never mess in the house, and they don't cause any trouble at all. Also, they are really loving and smart creatures too who can be perfectly happy by themselves without a human around for days. Somehow I just respect cats more than I do dogs because they are so much more independant and smarter, knowing what they want on their own.

That said, I know that even my pets are just animals--and they don't have souls and are not nearly as important on this earth as human beings. I figure we are here to help take care of them and they provide love in return. We are not here to enjoy their pain and suffering, and I do believe there is a special place in hell for folks who do.

How much easier is it to shoot a possum or snapping turtle than it is to shoot a dog? You cannot deny the cuteness factor.

I don't have a great love for pro sports figures who get paid obscene amounts of money and serve as role models for kids. When these players do stupid stuff and act up like Vick did, it is very easy for me to get a little chuckle when I think about how much fun his life in prison is going to be as a convicted animal torturer, and how much fun he is going to have in hell when he meets the dogs of hell!

are not nearly as important on this earth as human beings

Actually I consider my dog 100 times more important than Vick. He is useless person and overrated as a player. Whats worse is the other 53 dogs he had have to be put down.

I hope he gets what he deserves in jail. Just a ghetto thug with money.

I do not agree with senseless killing of any animal. Every day, millions of unwanted dogs are killed in dog pounds here in the USA.

I have a dog. Anyone that knows me knows I love my dog. I grew up around dogs.

This is my "little girl".

I helped deliver this little boy.

I think anyone that hurts an animal should be punished, but at the same time, I have a hard time saying one animal is more deserving of life then another.

Does a rat value its life any less than a dog? Does a dog value its life any more than a cat does? Does a fish not deserve to live compared to horse? Is it "ok" to kill a cow because society has said "Cows are good for food"? People enjoy killing groundhogs. Personally, I feel if they are not causing any damage, why kill them? Do Groundhogs not deserve to live?

As Gavin said, it is the cuteness factor that is at play here. We get in an uproar because it is a dog. How many dogs have been killed by the local animal shelters today?

As I have said before, I have a dog. I buried my last dog of 17 years. I wraped her in a blanket, gave her a kiss any put her in the ground. The last 5 years of her life, she was unable to walk up and down the stairs on her own. She still could get around the house and had a good appetite up to the day she died. I cried like a baby when she died.

I still like to eat a cow, pig, chicken, or turkey.

Uh...

When was the last time you saw a beta fish find a wounded person under a pile of rock and rubble?

Exactly.

Dogs should be held to a higher degree than most other animals.

When was the last time you heard about a cat waking up it's owner because their home was on fire?

Exactly.

Vick shouldn't go to jail; he should be beat till he is scarred.

There are a lot of people I would pass up saving before I saving my dog.

People need to cut the Politically correct bull crap... it's only weakening out tolerance for criticism and it hinders free expression.
