Hello all, I was doing an oil change on the girlfriends car. service manual calls for 4.75 quarts, but dipstick shows slightly overfull @4 quarts. after dumping the used oil in an old container, it measures right at 4 quarts. I let the oil drain out completely over 30 plus mins. the filter is one of those fancy euro style ones that doesn't hold much oil. I left it a 4 quarts. was this the right choice? is this just GM tomfoolery to get you in the service dept.? any help appreciated.
    Thanks, Aaron

Go by the stick.... Maybe the car was not on flat ground? But check it on level ground, If its good, then its good....

car was on level ground, and I'm sure I got all old oil out. I'm trying not to worry about it, wondering if GM somehow messed up a liter to quart conversion?

I had an '88 T-Bird 5.0L. It called for 5qts. It showed over full also. I found out it had the wrong stick. I corrected it, by cutting a piece of small hose and slid it on to the stick, up into the cap. To correct the reading.

My Sport Trac likes 4.5 quarts. It'll burn off or kick out the extra 0.5 quarts until it hits that 4.5 quart level... which is at the center mark on the stick.

I put 4 quarts in and I'll watch it for a while. thanks for all the input everyone. on a side note, the car has 30000 miles on it and when I changed the oil, I changed the filter as well. this thing was dirty and I mean FILTHY. looked like it had never been changed and upon closer inspection, it had acdelco marks on it. she's been taking it to Pennzoil since it was new lol. I bet good money they've never touched that filter...
