Hi All. Found this forum by accident trying to find information about the bearing on my 2007 Explorer Sport Trac XLT. It's a 4.0L V6. 187,000 miles. I'm getting a roaring sound while driving and a clunking sound when ever I hit a bump. I'm told this is because the drive shaft bearing is bad. Searching on line has been confusing as to whether I have one that can be replaced or not or do I need to replace the whole drive shaft assembly? HELP!

    Tom

You saw far more action than I did as a medic. I flew medevac with the 902 Evac Sq and then did a TDY to the 37th Air Rescue and Recovery Sq. at Danang filling in for a PJ that was killed. I did 159 days with them on a crew until they could get another PJ in from the stateside school which ran 38 weeks. I retired in Dec 1985. Thanks for your service. Did 22 years in LE and was sniper on our team. Had the honor of attending the 2nd Marine Division Scout Sniper School in 1990 just before Sadam invaded Kuwait.

Was the drive shaft setup so much different from the 2004 and 2007 Sport Tracs?

Yes, 2001-2005 is the Gen1 trac. One peice drive shaft.
Almost every mechanical thing on the 2007-2010 Gen2 is diferent. Except the 4.0L motor is the same, with a few diferences.
The Gen1 is a mix of the Ranger and Explorer. The Gen 2 is built on the explorer of that Gen.

Thanks, slowly learning about them. Didn't have an owner's manual when I bought it two years ago. Can't find any repair manuals for the 2007 model. So I could use Explorer parts then?

OK go to rock auto and buy the complete assembly... on the 4x4 the 4.6 and the 4.0 4WD are exactly the same and the bearing is NOT serviceable.
    The 2wd is serviceable.

The complete shaft at rock is $300..... The others like fort Wayne, and driveshaft's, are $700 !! the Colorado one $500 is CRAP and fails...

    Hope this helps..
