Hood paint *fixable*?

Hi all,



The paint on my hood is really bad. (pic can be seen via link below....mysporttrac.com wouldn't let me upload for some reason).

The thing is, it looks fine when wet.



Do you think this is fixable without a repaint?



I've tried rubbing compound, obviously it had no effect.

For the oxidation you need a high speed buffer and a buffing compound. I clay bar the area prior to buffing to pull out any contamination. Set buffer to 2-3 speed if it is a 7 sp or about 1000rpm.. move quick and smooth if you put to much pressure or stay in one spot to long you will burn through the paint. As far as the peeling clear coat this is how it is fixed cheaply(link below) For both if you haven't done it I suggest 1 watch a lot of videos. 2 find a very small area or better yet get on Craigslist and get a body part for cheap to practice on. As far a fixing the peeling clear coat you can do a better job than the attached video as far a removal of the old but you get the idea just remember not to remove paint itself.

Looks to me like the clear coat has cooked. Not sure a buffer will make it look that good. I had a Chevy Celebrety Eurosport back in the day that had the same condition and I just painted the whole top of the car to a pinstripe on the side with a urethane enamel! Good Luck!
